Dinner Mystery

It was a quiet night. The husband was at work. I was tired.

Dinner was not a luxury I was taking.

Cereal, the every-meal.

Then all of the sudden...

She walked in. In all my years I'd never seen anything like her.

The wild hair and desperation in her eyes only meant one thing.

She was hungry.

What did she want? There was only one way to find out.

"What's your name dollface?"

"Reese Griffiths"

"Griffiths... Griffiths... you mean the sole daughter of the Burger Man?"

"Yes. How did you know?"

"It's my business to know. Miss Griffiths, sit down."

"I'm hungry"

She cut to the chase. There was no dilly-dallying with her.

"Where did your father keep his food?"

"He has a small kitchen, downstairs"

She was hungry. She was trouble.

Of all the joints in all the town, in all the world, she walks into mine.

She was used to getting food. Quick food.

I told her not to worry, I would be back with her food quicker than a Lehi

minute.

"I'm Hungry. Hot Dog. Pizza. Grapies. Blueberries."

She was becoming incoherent. I had to act quickly.

Pretty seedy part of the kitchen for a renowned Burger man.

It was the only place that he could experiment with cheese...without the

smell bothering the neighbors.

I'll see what I can turn up.

There it was. The refrigerator.

My heart started racing as I perused the refrigerator.

Nothing.

I could feel the sweat of anxiety drip down my brow.

My thoughts tumbled in my head, making and breaking alliances like underpants in a dryer without a dryer sheet.

"I'm SO HUNGRY"

She was getting impatient. Those Griffiths' where known for their impatience.

Bagles, spaghetti sauce, and hot dogs.

What could I make that would satisfy this dame?

Then it hit me like a ton of plastic building blocks.

Pizza.

My fervor was cut short when I realized I was missing one essential ingredient.

Cheese.

The Burger Man without cheese. No wonder he went AWOL.

Defeat never tasted so bland.

Then glimmering, in the corner of the refrigerator. Hope in the form of

Mozzarella.

Quickly.  Half Bagel, spooned spaghetti sauce, shredded Mozzarella, sliced Hot Dogs. Broiled.

I had it.

Success.

I ran to Reese like a fat boy chasing an ice cream truck.

You could tell by her toothy grin that she was happy to see me.

I was happy to see her.

Her burps were confirmation that she was satisfied.

Case closed.

Then He walked in.

By the way he walked I knew he had some business to take care of…

Very clever story. My kids love having pizza like that too. So easy and tasty. Though I've never tried hot dogs on it. I always have a stash of pepperoni on hand.
