Our Lullabies

The bedtime routines I have vary from child to child. With Reese we would have to do 100 things before she would be satisfied enough to consider sleep, including singing every single Disney princess song alive. Everett would be asleep before I had even said, “Good Night”. My precious Devin would just want to cuddle as I sang him our songs.

Devin and I would have this special time at night where Reese and Everett would be asleep, Kurt would be at work, and we would  have some quiet time together.

These are our special lullabies.

I hear them often and it hurts my heart. These are all so precious to me. I feel when I hear them out in public he's sending me a little love song, but they still make me cry.

Baby mine, don't you cry
Baby mine, dry your eyes
Rest your head close to my heart
Never to part, baby of mine

Little one when you play
Don't you mind what you say
Let those eyes sparkle and shine
Never a tear, baby of mine

From your head to your toes,
You're so sweet goodness knows
You are so precious to me,
Cute as can be, baby of mine

Edelweiss, Edelweiss
Every morning you greet me
Small and white,
clean and bright
You look happy to meet me.

Blossom of snow
may you bloom and grow,
Bloom and grow forever.
Edelweiss, Edelweiss
Bless my homeland forever

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are grey
You never know, dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away

The other night, dear, as I lay sleeping
I dreamt I held you in my arms
When I awoke, dear, I was mistaken
So I hung my head, and I cried

I'll always love you and make you happy
If you will only say the same
But if you leave me to love another,
You'll regret it all one day

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are grey
You never know, dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away

Please don't take my sunshine away

Hush, little baby, don't say a word,
Mama's gonna buy you a mockingbird.

And if that mockingbird won't sing,
Mama's gonna buy you a diamond ring.

And if that diamond ring turns brass,
Mama's gonna buy you a looking glass.

And if that looking glass gets broke,
Mama's gonna buy you a billy goat,

And if that billy goat don't pull,
Mama's gonna buy you a cart and bull.

And if that cart and bull turn over,
Mama's gonna buy you a dog named Rover.

And if that dog named Rover won't bark,
Mama's gonna buy you a horse and cart.

And if that horse and cart fall down,
You'll still be the sweetest little baby in town.

*I would make up verses mainly consisting of cakes and things Devin liked

I forgot, we sang this too...

The second star to the right
Shines in the night for you
To tell you that the dreams you plan
Really can come true

The second star to the right
Shines with a light so rare
And if it's Neverland you need
It's light will lead you there

Twinkle, twinkle little star
So we'll know where you are
Gleaming in the skies above
Lead use to the land we dream of

And when our journey is through
Each time we say "Goodnight"
We'll thank the little star that shines
The second from the right
